So what better time to buy the Hostel Bear next door and renovate it into a 30-room hotel. McLean is using one for her office that now employs a staff of six, and the street side will be home to Rocky Mountain Bagel Company.Īll 10 residential units are sold and buyers will move in in October. It’s a mixed-use building with 10 residential townhome condos above two retail spaces. Not one to rest on her laurels, she bought the land next door and, going through the same process - raising $1.7 million - Residences at Base Camp is under construction. With her husband, Tim, working as the general contractor, the result is an attractive home away from home that is already earning rave reviews from visitors. ![]() Mission accomplished, the next step was to find a good designer, and she teamed up with Systemic Architecture and Studio North in Calgary to design the 32-unit Base Camp Resort, with wonderful rooftop hot tub views of Three Sisters, and process the plans through the Town of Canmore. The first challenge was to find investors, and she was able to raise the $2 million needed before she could convince a bank that she was serious. ![]()
